Mullumbimby Township boasts a rich, multi-layered identity deeply cherished by the local community. Meanwhile, there is a growing awareness of the region's escalating housing affordability challenges.
The former Mullumbimby Hospital site presents a significant opportunity to enhance and diversify local housing options through a site-responsive design, focused on providing affordable housing, community amenity and a strong sense of place.
HIP V. HYPE, in collaboration with Austin Maynard Architects, facilitated an Enquiry by Design (EbD) workshop, bringing together community representatives, technical experts and Council stakeholders. This collaborative process established
a shared vision and conceptual masterplans for the site, informed by local insights, technical expertise and strategic planning priorities.
Following the Enquiry by Design process, the project team, in collaboration with Driscoll Advisory Services, are progressing the project's next phase: preparing a Development Strategy, Site-Specific Development Control Plan (DCP) and Masterplan Reference Scheme for the site.
