Passivhaus is the world’s leading standard in high performance buildings. Applicable to any building typology, Passivhaus targets thermal comfort and superior energy efficiency in one of the best win-win approaches to design — with energy savings of up to 90% compared with new building standards.
HIP V. HYPE is the Passivhaus certifier for the Clifton Hill Primary School expansion, working together with the Victorian Schools Building Authority (VSBA) and Jackson Clements Burrows Architects (JCBA).

Context
Set to be the first VSBA project to achieve Passivhaus certification, Clifton Hill Primary School uses mass timber hybrid construction for a lower carbon footprint. A visible Photovoltaic (PV) array to the roof terrace not only provides power for the School, but also offers students an opportunity to learn and see sustainability in action. The Passivhaus Standard provides a healthy indoor environment to facilitate learning, while ultra-low operational energy safeguards the future of young occupants.
