As part of the 30-Year Greater Hobart Plan, the Tasmanian Government is progressing the development of Medium Density Guidelines to encourage a greater diversity of housing in the City of Hobart. The Guidelines will inform the city's strategic planning with a focus on providing opportunities for urban renewal, better housing affordability, diversity, increased amenity and liveability through medium density development.

HIP V. HYPE supported project delivery, led by ERA Planning & Environment on behalf of the Tasmanian Government, providing best-practice examples of medium density housing in the Victorian and international context. We were also engaged to provide sustainability input into the guidelines, leading the the climate resilience chapter of the Guidelines.

Utilising our experience in property development, HIP V. HYPE Founder Liam Wallis undertook a review to ensure the Guidelines provide the right cues to 'build better' for Hobart.

  • Develop a suite of best-practice medium density examples
  • Consult key stakeholders to apply findings to the Hobart context
  • Provide Guidelines input from a sustainability and climate resilience perspective
  • Review Guidelines through the lens of a residential developer
